We recently shared our journey to financial independence with the Explore FI Canada team. If you’re not a subscriber, we highly recommend you do, as the content is tailored to the Canadian audience.
During the podcast, you will notice we mentioned a trip to northern Ontario, where we listened to various podcasts, including Explore FI Canada. This was also when we listed to Quit Like a Millionaire audiobook, by Canadians Kristy and Bryce from Millenial Revolution.
I still remember this day, as I was driving to Lake Superior Provincial Park. every chapter we started, we barely talked to each other, just listening to the book. Once the chapter ended, we discussed the strategy and thought about how this could be adapted to our needs. We took notes of every single chapter.
When we needed a break, we would switch from the book to Explore FI Canada podcasts. Here’s what happened:
Gean: Amor [this is what I call Kristine, which in Portuguese means Love], one day, we will have a chance to share our history at the Explore FI Canada podcast.
Kristine: [laughed and said…] Really? I don’t know if people will be interested in learning what we have to say.
Gean: Trust me. It would be cool to share with our fellow Canadians. Simple people, like us, can achieve financial independence, too.
A few months after, here we are, sharing our journey with you:
When Gean and Kristine met, she was $60,000 in debt. Having worked and saved hard to immigrate from Brazil to Canada, Gean already had a good handle on his finances. Together, they managed to pay off the debt and get on the path to FIREāin just one year!
If you feel inclined, visit Explore FI Canada and listen to what we have to say. We hope you enjoy as much as we did. As always, we are happy to answer any questions.
Big thanks to Chrissy from Eat, Sleep, Breathe FI and Money Mechanic from FI Garage for the opportunity.

Aww, what a lovely post, Gean! Sorry for my late comment… it’s been a bit of a crazy month for me.
I’m honoured to have accompanied you on your road trip and we’re THRILLED that you and Kristine came on the show to talk to us.
Your story is so relatable and inspiring. I’m happy that we could help share it with other Canadians.
We’d love to have you back on the show at some point to share an update with our listeners!
Thank you, Chrissy. And we understand and are looking forward to sharing more insights on our journey to financial independence. We keep learning as we go and are grateful for what you and MM provide to fellow Canadians and us.
